The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The Government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers a grant to help homeowners cover part of the cost of installing a heat pump.

These grants will help you with the upfront costs. Starting in April 2022, the scheme is currently running until 2027, so you still have time to take advantage of the £7,500 heat pump grant. This will cover both ground source and air source heat pumps.

Depending on the type and size of heat pump you choose, and the necessary changes needed to your house to make it efficient, a new system can cost around £13,000 on average to install. Securing a heat pump grant can therefore cover a large chunk of this cost, although it’s unlikely that it will cover the full cost of installing a heat pump.

How it works

Check your eligibility

You must be replacing a fossil fuel heating system, and the installation must be done by an MCS accredited installer. You must also have a valid EPC.

Find an installer

Use Thermly's Heat Pump Readiness Assessment to find out how much a heat pump would cost and to connect with a local installer.

Get cracking!

Your installer will start the application and you'll be contacted by OFGEM - who manage the scheme - to verify some details. Once the installation is complete the grant will be paid to your installer and taken off your final balance.
